You did a gorgeous job of handling the pencils with regards to blending. Even where someone might have been tempted to create hard lines in the hair, everything just blends seamlessly into the next area. I am also quite taken with how you took a just OK photo and made it so much more intense while remaining true to the subject. The balance and sense of depth in the painting are just fantastic. I feel as if I could reach out and touch this person's hair and skin in the pic and there would be no falseness to it. Simply amazing work!
hmmm... this is my first time critiquing... hmmm, great composition. her blue eyes stand out marvelously from her warm skin. You place very important details in her cheeks, lips, and hair (eg. freckles, hair, light). This is very bold in contrast which shows confidence, you don't seem afraid to make dark marks. The whole picture seems well unified in color, in other words, a good amount of variety in colors. This is a very emotional theme with the thought that children make honest expressions.
i believe every artworks has flaws but i can't see them here. i think you're the only one that will ever be able to know where there are.lol .... i can't wait to see more from your work.
exactly that, but people find it hard to understand this. It is never my intention to make a photo copy. Why would i ever want to do that? it keeps no interest to me. i want to bring my ref one step further, stretch it to MY limits. thank you!
I have been trying to do the same (albeit less successfully than you ), so your pictures are a real inspiration to me. It's so nice to see someone working hard to do their own thing instead of following the crowd
Wow this is just amazing!! Its so perfect that I had to wonder like a few others here whether it had just been digitalised from a photo, but its not. Do you ever do requests from ppl? I'd love you to draw my daughter some day cos I will never be able to draw like you with such precision and detail. Just beautiful works.
In all honesty i dont think it is perfect, i look at it and i see many things i would have done differently right now(and this is the reason why i revisit so many of my pieces so often ), but i am not disappointed either on how it turned. Yep we can definitely arrange something for your girl, whenever you are ready for it, i would be glad to work with you on that. Note me when you feel like it. Little girls are my greatest joy to paint. Thank you so much for the lovely words and the support
Ahh you are your own worst critic, so ppl always say lol. Am like that too with mine, see stuff wrong. But am coming to the conclusion that no art is wrong. Everyone's style is different. But yes yours is truely amazing!! Yes will let you know thankyou. How much roughly would it cost please? Thanks. And you are most welcome. Just glad I found you.
critique from smilingoatstudio was spot on ya do almost feel like ya could touch skin or hair, definitely captured everything in that piece. im blown away at your attention to detail. amazing work again
from all the comments (compliments) i have received admittedly yours stands out. It takes a lot of work my dear, hours and hours to reach there, all tiny details done with a hard tip and then blended so all the color pigments are pushed inside the paper texture, and then some fine color layers on top and more blending, and burnishing when needed. It takes a lot of patience, and some times i get so frustrated, and i am going crazy, but the next day i calm down and i go on, and i know all the times i have dedicated the proper effort to my work i am rewarded for it.

Trust me when I say your work is the most amazing drawings I've ever seen! I can't even fathom how u can make it look so realistic. I can imagine it must take many hours and years of practice. I have no words. I'm lost. Your art is simply the most detailed ever and it's fascinates me. I hope u know that I meant no harm by my question, I'm just trying to wrap my mind around how on earth u can do this! Your technique and style is mesmerizing. In my wildest dreams, I could never begin to do what u do. I draw, sketch and do a lil painting but, after seeing your work...I'm a utter beginner. Wow Wow
You dont have to worry about it really, i have heard the most extraordinary things at times, like : #'You miss-categorized this it cant be traditional' #'wow did you digitize a photo?' I really get it ,what feels natural to me cant feel the same way to others who view the finished pieces, and i can relate because theres art in this site that i view and i cant believe how much effort it took to be done and my jaw is dropping, but when this happens i turn it just to another excuse to push myself even harder and harder to reach there and touch perfection. Lol does this make any sense?
not really my friend. It just happened i started with watercolor pencils instead of regular color pencils because i wanted to reserve the liberty of adding water at will. Well some times it happens, some others it doesn't. Whats gonna help you with adding many color layers is in fact your paper, not your pencils. If you can grab a little time take a tour here xrls.deviantart.com/art/Color-… maybe you grab something useful.
I have been asked, (often by non artist friends) why do artists draw or paint in a photorealistic style when one can just have the photograph? Your portraits demonstrate perfectly why. The light and life you have created has created a believable image, but one that also brings an element of magic and fantasy whilst still maintaining innocence. These are truely beautiful
Its exactly that, i am happy you understand!! Photorealism or Hyper realism (whatever people like to call it) is not what i am aiming to, i aim to the emotional impact and striving to reach the specific image i have inside my head every time. Thank you for the encouraging and lovely words.
the way i use to highlight is often the reason i am accused for exaggerating, i love my little sharp details, the skin texture, pores, wrinkles, facial hair, all of it. Its because i love it so much that i intentionally push everything far from my ref. How i do it, it seems my hands have a brain of their own, even the times i promise myself i WONT exaggerate this time, i get to lose the bet, because my hands always do their thing thank you very much for the lovely words, you are so kind!
