I love a lot of things about this piece, the eyes are so pretty, you have drawn them with a "kind emotion" amazing lips shape too, it's so easy to go overboard but these lips are spot on............. and a very cute button nose. I'm a fan of freckles too so I can see you are putting some in "yaaaaaaaay" this piece is going to be great Chrissie, will you be putting in a background? back to the eyes, in the reference you are using her eyes look a little sinister yet you have drawn them to look very sweet with a hint of innocence that takes skill !!!!! ok I think you can tell I'm very impressed with this piece ..............
If you already took a trip in my gallery, especially the portraits, you must have realized that i am not interested in creating a photocopy of my ref. What i am after is the emotional impact. Ofc,its the undeniable truth that the girl is very pretty, and the reason i chose her is because we look alike, with a very few changes. My nose is more round,my eyebrows are lighter,i have more freckles, slightly different eye color, apparently bigger mouth( ooooh do i talk too much dear? )so in a way her image is very familiar to me. About the eyes, what you see is my expression,i am sry for that.. the background is almost finished been working on it since yesterday non stop,it should be rdy till tomorrow maybe, unless i am spending one more day with a very poor sleep! we see how it goes.. thank you for your time John
its weird that only in B/W i dare to leave a portrait without a background... but with colors i go wild so it has to be the full version i am afraid! well i have been working till 2 am last night on it,spent the whole day to draw a single maple tree leaf hopefully i ll make more progress today, was actually thinking to attach real dried leaves on the background!
Have you pressed leaves? I am always afraid to create collages. especially with my drawings,
I can understand the color background issue, color is a more complete form and a Black and white image has the power to hold its own.
though then i consider that you paint Icons / saints.
My friend shared a photo the other day of The orthodox church in Alaska it has about 5 Icon Images in the background i considered sharing though something strange about borrowing a photo of an inside of a church.
I had 4 dried leaves reserved inside a book.I have used them all now...2 used in this piece. I took a leap of faith to attach them on this drawing, either it would be a disaster or it would turn ok. It turned ok.
Yeah this is exactly how it goes.
You know, every place i go,i never neglect to visit the churches. Not because i am religious in particular, but the art i find in the temples i cant find anywhere else. The murals..the icons..everything is pure joy for the eyes.
Now i wonder how did you remember this one here? Its 6 months old.And if i wasnt sure till now, today i am pretty much convinced, you are even more crazy than i am !
the best tip concerning the background i have received from i miss him very much.. he said that i had to finish my background first BEFORE i start putting the human forms in my piece, so i would avoid toning down the flesh hues.. well he was right. But then again he had such an excellent control on his own self and on his art too. i have no control at all...in either
Very good advice, I just cant work that way, I want to get to the good stuff as soon as possible LOL no self control what so ever. In fact, going to try and quit smoking December so that should say enough about my self control LMAO
Thank you!!! the light in the corner is a disaster but lemme explain... i am drawing this in front of the pc because i need to have a high resolution ref, right? so in this room where i use it as a studio mostly,i have a ceiling light (located to my right shoulder) with fluorescent bulbs at 5300K( that's the Kelvin scale) and as a result you see the right half of this drawing in a low-range blue light, like ice. Now on my right, i have a portable light with a halolux bulb E27 70W eco,at 2700K emitting an orange yellow toned light. So the half left part of my board is a warm orange In case you have started wondering, i am an architectural lighting designer.I know what temperature in light can do thus how to create emotions with colors where's this coffee now? i need to open my eyes
